The Victorian Gorse Taskforce (VGT) leads an integrated approach to reducing gorse across private and public land. We source funding from across government for community-led activities to reduce gorse in local areas. These groups provide information, financial and practical support to landowners managing gorse and are helping reduce gorse across the Victorian landscape.

The Council of Australasian Weed Societies (CAWS) is an independent body that can express national and regional views on all issues relating to weeds and their management. The Council is composed of delegates from Australian State Societies and the Plant Protection Society of New Zealand that have weed management as their major focus. The Council promotes weed management, and its practitioners, through education, awards, travel grants and publications.

In 1995 the community was deeply concerned with the spread of serrated tussock, a devastating weed that had invaded 140,000 ha of land in Victoria. In response to that community concern, a strategy for the control of serrated tussock in Victoria was produced, which called for the development of the Victorian Serrated Tussock Society, as it was known then. Today, that organisation is the community-managed and driven Victorian Serrated Tussock Working Party.
