It can be a legal requirement to report certain weeds, particularly if they have been listed as a high priority weed in your state or territory.
Each Australian state and territory government has a list of high priority weeds that should or must be reported— these are often termed ‘notifiable’, ‘prohibited’, ‘reportable’ or ‘alert’ weeds. Typically, they are weeds not known to occur in the state or territory or are in the very early stages of establishment and would have a significant impact if allowed to spread.
Some weeds can also be reported at the national, regional or local government level.
