WeedScan allows users to identify priority weeds and provides links to the latest management information.

WeedScan is powered by an AI model trained by the CSIRO and field tested across Australia by scientists, farmers, community groups, agronomists, rangers, weeds and natural resource management officers.

WeedScan is available now as a web application, with a smartphone app slated for release in late 2023.

The web application allows users to upload a digital photograph of a plant they suspect is a weed. Once uploaded, the photograph is assessed by an AI model against verified images of priority weeds. Within seconds WeedScan suggests a number of possible plant identifications, with degrees of confidence for each suggestion.

Registered users can choose to make a record of a suspect weed for formal verification. They can also create groups to enable sharing of weed records within the group.
